Urgent Air Shipment of Medical Equipment to Damascus

Managing an urgent air shipment of medical devices from a European supplier to Damascus, including medical documentation preparation, pre-approval coordination, fast air transport, and direct time-critical delivery.

This project demonstrates Caravan’s capability to operate time-critical logistics in the medical sector. A healthcare institution in Damascus placed an urgent request for breathing devices, monitoring tools, and rapid-response medical kits – all required within a strict window of no more than 72 hours.

Caravan initiated the process by coordinating with the European supplier to issue all required medical compliance documentation, including certificates of origin, medical-use approval, and technical conformity validation. Parallel to that, Caravan ran legal feasibility checks to ensure permitted entry of such devices into Syria.

A dedicated 24-hour task team executed the operation based on five synchronized pillars:

  1. Securing immediate air freight routing and booking

  2. Issuing an Air Waybill (AWB)

  3. Obtaining medical and customs clearances prior to the aircraft’s arrival

  4. Preparing ground delivery to begin the moment the plane lands

  5. Ensuring equipment safety through controlled-handling vehicles

The shipment reached Damascus International Airport within less than 48 hours from departure, and because customs clearance was pre-processed, release and handover happened immediately. The cargo was delivered directly to the healthcare institution, with a signed receipt and condition report confirming intact equipment.

Caravan later provided a final executive report summarizing: timelines, compliance stages, risk mitigation actions, and recommendations for future recurring imports.
